2000-2001 Call for Projects
Status:  Complete

The Northwest Rail Corridor Sustainable Development project is located in the Las Colinas district of Irving. Las Colinas is a mixed-use planned community with high-rise office towers, retail centers, apartment and condominium housing, and recreational facilities. Other attractions in the area include the Irving Convention Center, Mustang Square, Toyota Music Factory, and a river walk-styled canal, with an above-ground Las Colinas Area Personal Transit (APT) system connecting the various developments.

NCTCOG awarded funding for transportation improvements, including construction of DART’s Orange Line, the central Transit Mall, arterial street improvements, and the APT system to connect to the Irving Convention Center Station.

These connections allow residents to travel from Las Colinas to most of the DFW Metroplex and the DFW International Airport. Development in the area is expected to continue growing with more mixed-use development, local businesses, a higher population density, and increased foot traffic to popular attractions and transit nodes.

The project cost of $18,900,000 was funded through public-private partnerships.
