Transit Safety (PTASP)
Transit Safety (PTASP)
Public Transit Agency Safety Plans are a means for transit providers to monitor and improve the safety of their transit systems. A core component of the process is monitoring and establishing targets for four required performance measures:
Fatalities (total number of reportable fatalities and rate per chosen interval of vehicle revenue miles by mode)
Injuries (total number of reportable injuries and rate per chosen interval of vehicle revenue miles by mode)
Safety Events (total number of reportable events and rate per chosen interval of vehicle revenue miles by mode)
System Reliability (mean distance between major mechanical failures by mode)
Transit providers in the region establish and report targets annually, and NCTCOG as the MPO establishes regional targets with a four-year time horizon. RTC adopted initial targets in May 2021, and the next anticipated target-setting action will be in early 2025. The Transit Management and Planning team coordinates these measures.
